Video: What will you defend? - Singapore National Education / Total Defence TD25

Thursday, March 3 1

Song Lyrics (Officer Cadet School Course):

We come from many places, all across the land.
Of many different races, together hand in hand.
United we stand, divided we fall.
Ready to serve our nation's call.

We come from OCS, we are the very best.
Leading with dignity and pride.
Whenever we go, we'll always know,
our spirit lives forever more.

Loyalty to the country, that's what we all believe.
To lead, excel and overcome,
is what we must achieve.
Forever strong and valiant,
we'll give our lives and more.
Never ceasing to serve Singapore.

What will i defend?

Friday, July 31 1
I am Koh Yi Pin, index number 15 from class 2a.

I will defend my country because if i do not have a proper country, i would not be able to have home or friends and family to defend.

I will defend my family, my home. My family members are always the one who are with me since the day i was born. I can talk to my family members if i have any problems.

I will defend my true friends. Friends would share my troubles and problems with me so that i would not be alone facing the problems that i have.

I agree with Marvin, as family is the thing that everyone would protect and like he said, without them, we would not be able to do what i am now lead such a life !

What will I defend?

Monday, July 27 0
I am Chan Yuk Chi, index number 4 from class 2A

I will defend my country, because I'm kind of a patriot and I love my country. And without my country, I wouldn't have a home or friends and family to defend.

I will defend my home, because I would rather sleep in a bed than the gutter, and I would actually like to sit down to eat breakfast in the morning.

And I will defend my friends and family, because without them I would not have anybody to rely on, and I would be rather lonely.

Also, I agree with Zi Li's post very much. Friends can't be taken for granted, and should be appreciated.

What and Who will I defend?

I am Lim Yueh Hwa from Secondary 2A and my index number is 20. I will protect my family, relatives, church friends, close school friends, my most favourite items, such as my laptop, psp, and hand phone, and last but not least, my country. I will protect my parents as they are ones who gave me support and raised me up together with my siblings. Since I have a close bond with my siblings, i will also protect them. Next, I will protect my relatives as we spent our childhood time playing together. My aunties and uncles also play a part in giving me advice. My church friends and I also played together since young and I have many wonderful childhood memories. They also celebrated my birthday with me and gave me birthday presents. I also have a close bond with them. When I am bored and when I have nothing to do, and when my relatives and church friends are not at my house, I will use my laptop or play my psp. I may also use my hand phone to send text messages or call my friends, be it school friends or church friends. Hence, I will also protect them. Finally, I would do my best to protect my country as that is where I live. Without my country, I would have to find somewhere else to live.

I personally think that you should not perceive friend as people whom you mix around and are not important in your daily life and they come and go. True friends stick by you all the time going through thick and thin together. Depending on which kind of friends you choose, they influence you to do good or bad, also known as peer pressure. This may change your beliefs, attitudes and values as time passes. Hence, friends play a part in our lives.

What I would protect. The 3 C's

What would I protect would be my family and true friends. Why you may ask. It is because firstly, parents play an important role as it determines a child's upbringing and character. They are supportive of whatever you do physically, financially and other methods. They are also the people whom brought you up properly and healthily, showering us with love every time. They console us when we are sad. Ultimately, they do their very best to make their child satisfied and happy. We should also be grateful to our parents for bringing us up. Hence, I would protect my parents and family whenever in trouble. Secondly, I would protect my friends. Not just friends but true friends. True friends would stick by you whatever happens, they go through you thick and thin, console you when you are feeling down, sharing great times together. Now that we are teenagers, we tend to confide in our friends than our parents. Having a true friends is tons better than having many "friends" by your side or I call them as playmates where you tend to play and spend great times together with does not definitely mean that he is a true friend. True friends are priceless treasures that we should learn to appreciate. Also playing a important role as friends giving hope and happiness to one another is another reason why I would protect them during times of trouble.

To Bosco Kor's response

Saturday, July 25 0
I agree with Bosco that if a war would have broke out, being boys we would be soldiers and sent to the battlefield. Therefore we would be unable to protect our loves ones directly. However I will remember that I would be fighting for my country, families and friends. I will motivate myself during the battle by constantly reminding myself that I am fighting for the protection of my families, friends and country. I would not have the morale to fight a war if my families are already protected and I am not fighting for my home country.

Who Will I Defend

I am Wong Wen Hong Kenneth from 2A, 41

I will choose to protect my family members. There are a few reasons. Firstly, I spend most of my time with my family. When I was young, they always shower me with care and buy lots of toy for me. Secondly, whenever I feel unhappy, I will confide to them and they always listen to me. I share happy and sad moments with them. Thirdly, they are the closest to me and teach me important life values to make me become a better person. They are the ones who correct me when I did something and reward when I did something good. So, I will definitely protect them in times of threat and crisis. Country and friends will come later.

I agree with Yi Song.

Family members will always be with you when you are troubled. They are very important in our lives as they guide us and motivate us, helping us to become a better person.

What Will I Defend? By Jeremy Teo

Friday, July 24 0
I will defend, first of all, my family and relatives, as they are what means most to me. Because they have been with me all my life, and i care for them a lot. They love me as much as i love them, and they are the people that i can share just about anything with. They will always try their best to understand me, and put up with me no matter how unreasonable i may be. I would also defend my best friends, as i have found true joy to be with them, and we have shared many different experiences together, both in school and out of school. We go through thick and thin together, and i can share with them openly about my beliefs and also secrets, as i know they would not betray, or sell me out.

What will you defend.

I am quah soon chai of 2a.
I will defend my country. It is because without a country, there will not be a place where my family can live and that would mean that my family would need the country to survive. Having live in this place for so long, i could understand that this is my where my home is and i could not leave it. I believe that my parents would feel so as well.

Who will i defend?

1)I will defend my country. It is where i grow up in and where my family and friends are.
Protecting my country is like protecting everyone living in that country. Including my family, friends and everybody living in Singapore. I would strive to protect and defend Singapore in times of threat or crisis.

2)I agree with Jeremy that we should defend, first of all, our family and relatives, as they are what means most to me. Because they have been with me all my life, and i care for them a lot. They love me as much as i love them, and they are the people that i can share just about anything with. But i must also state that i will still defend my country. Because defending the country means protecting everyone who lives there. Including all my family, relatives and friends.

what will i defend

I am 2a Huang Wei Yen (09)

I will defend my family if the other country invade us. Firstly, my parent had been the closet person to me, when I face the difficulty in my life and was very depressed, my parent will alway there to comfort me and make me had hope for future . When I was sad, my parent will always had many ways to make me happy. So I will protect my parent because they are the important person for me. Secondly, My parent had been feeding me for 15 years, it was the time for me to repay their kindness by protect them from the enemies. They should been enjoying their for their rest of years. Thirdly, I can not lost them because if i lose them i will be the orphans and I will not have house to live in, and food . So if their is war at Singapore, i will protect my amily.

English Elearning Marcus Kwek 16 2A

THIS IS MARCUS KWEK 2A 16

I would protect my precious loved family members, faithful friends and my country, Singapore. My precious family members have showered countless amounts of love on me, and would always be there for me, supporting and helping me in my life. My parents has raised me from birth, feeding me with the best food, giving me a comfort and safe zone, and protecting me from dangers. They are willing to spend their hard earned money on me, nuturing me. They teach me values and morals of life, and would forgive me when I am in wrong. They bring me joy, warmth and a comfortable life i enjoy. My faithful friends stand by me, keep me company and gives me happiness. We play together, spend time with one another, and go through many difficulties and achievements together. We complete tough tasks together, share the joy, and go through interesting adventures in life together. My country, Singapore, consists of my beloved family, friends and fellow citizens. My country helped me achieve many things in life, provided me with good education and living conditions. They protect me from threats, and allow me to have a mind of peace, without any worries. I do not have to worry about having not enough food, not being able to attend school or staying on the streets, as Singapore will aid me. I will protect them !

Reply To Pang Ren Zhu Post

What about your precious faithful and nice friends, who stay by your side and go through difficulties with you. What about the times you spent with them, and enjoyed adventures.

What will I defend?

I am Pang Ren Zhu (28) from 2A.
I would probably defend my family. They have watched me grow up and are the closest to me. However, if it is possible, I will try my best to defend my country and my fellow men. I will fight for my country as it has been my home ever since I was born. If I fail to protect my country, I will protect as many people as I can. However, I will also defend myself as I believe everyone would fight for survival in times of crisis.

What i will hold most dear in life and protect and defend in times of threat or crisis?

Thursday, July 23 0
This is Kim Zi Li from 2A (14)

What will i hold on to most and protect in times of crisis would definitely be my parents and my little brother . My parents are the ones that brought me to this world and raise me up and showered my with endless love . In times of crisis they would be the ones that i will protect and hold on to most .My brother helps me relief my burden -Stress, by sometimes telling me some hilarious jokes that would help me forget my stress .At times he seemed to be the only person that i can talk to when i am troubled . If i have an opportunity , i would protect and hold on tight to my friends . They are the ones that helped me through some of my difficult times .E.g - they helped me in some IT works as i am very bad at IT . I always have a lot of difficulties working with computers .
You can rely on parents at home but friends are the only ones you can rely on outside the comfort of your home, so i would not take my friends for granted and  appreciate them .

Comment on Gavin's post :
I totally agree with gavin that life would not be the same without friends and family and that without them you will feel lonely .

What will I Defend?

I am Jared Chua (11) from 2A.

What will I Defend?

Many people say that in the event of a crisis, they would defend their family, loved ones and such. However, in reality, some would rather selfishly defend themselves even if their loved ones were in a difficult situation. I, myself, also feel that way, and such, I will defend myself, anybody that is accompanying me during the crisis, and (if possible) my family.

Why do I say that defending yourself is important? That is because, if you care much about others around you, you will neglect yourself, and that would be harming yourself. Although your loved ones are happy to see that you want to defend them during the crisis, they would be able to see that you are hurting yourself in the process, thus worrying more. In a worse situation, you could overstress yourself which can lead to illness, and which other people would have to take care of you, which causes even more stress to the people. So, in order not to add on to the burden of my loved ones, I would firstly take care of myself, and if I am capable, then help the people around me.

Treating the people who are following you during the crisis is also important, as they are able to encourage you whenever you feel like giving up. This motivation is needed during a crisis so that people will not succumb to suicide to end the misery. If disputes happen, it will cause a extra weight of stress onto the survivor which will lead to illness and such.

Of course family is the main priority of a person as it is the main source of comfort and peace. However, many fail to defend it. At the start, people are determined to protect their family no matter what the costs are, but, at the critical moment, they will panic and defend themselves instead of his/her weak family. In my point of view, family is the most important thing to protect, and it is also the hardest to protect. It is also the main source of motivation (other than the other people accompanying you during the crisis) and could really boost your confidence in surviving. Saying, "I will definitely defend my parents, friends and country" is pretty easy, but is doing it the same?

Response to Bosco's post:
You said that, "There is actually not much choice of defending who you want because we are all boys and if war broke out all of us have to go to war and protect the country and its people so there is not much choice for us to make." But in actual fact, some people, who are cowards, run away on the battlefield to defend themselves rather than the country. This is a choice that they made, which is to defend themselves rather than the country.

What will i defend?

I am Jesandry(12) from 2A.
I will defend my family, relatives and my friends.
Firstly, I would defend my family, as they are always the one who are with me since I was born. They are the ones that are always supporting me and encouraging me. They made a very huge impact on my life. My parents are the ones that raised me up while my siblings bring joy to me.
Secondly, I would defend my friends. They care for me and I would share my problems with them. They would try their best to help me and they are always there when you need help. They also bring joy to me.
Finally, I would defend my relatives as they are those who are surrounding me and they are part of the family.
Comment on Wai Qun’s post:
I agree with Wai Qun as if we are not able to defend ourselves, how are we able to defend others. It is also right that we should defend our family as life would be meaningless without them.

What will you defend?

THIS IS BRENDAN LOI 2A 02.

I will defend my family, my friends and others who care for me.

My family. They are always there for me to support me and encourage me. To catch me when I fall, to get me back on my feet, to love and care for me. I think family is the most important thing hence I would want to defend them first.

My friends. They would share my troubles and problems and lend me a ear when I need someone to talk to and lend a hand when I need help. I have some really good friends who I confide in and I’m sure I’ll need them in the future.
Others who care for me. Perhaps my relatives or people I might not know who care for me it might be the world it might be just one but I’m still going to defend them.

There is actually not much choice of defending who you want because we are all boys and if war broke out all of us have to go to war and protect the country and its people so there is not much choice for us to make.  In the end I still want to protect my friends, family and country cause this are the essential things in life that make me feel comfortable cause i cannot imagine myself going to school without laughter and going back to a house without anyone.

I agree that without friends or family life would not be as nice as it is now, without them I would feel lonely all the day and everyday and no one can help me with my maths problems.

What will i defend....

(THIS IS NAHSHON, I AM HELPING BERWIN AS MATTHEW HAVE YET TO INVITE HIM) I Berwin Tan will protect my family, friends and country. My family are the ones who raised me up and play an indispensable part in my life. They have supported me in countless ways and I am will always be grateful to them.

My friends had also supported me and help me when I am in need. The bond I have between some of my friends are as close as brothers, therefore I wil protect them.

The country is the one which I had been brought up in and educated. I must be loyal to the country and defend it when in crisis.

Response to Marvin's post
I agree that family is most important as they have led you and raised you throughout your your life and without them life would be much harder then it would be at the time of crisis.

What will I defend ?
I would definitely defend my family and if possible, my closest friends. Life without family or friends would be very dull and maybe pointless as they are the people who make life fun and enjoyable. Our family are the people who lead you and friends are the people who make life exciting outside when you are away from your family. Both groups are as important to me.

What Will I Defend?

I am Poh Jin Wei (29) from 2A.

I will defend my family members, relatives and friends. These are the people that i mean the most to me. These are the people that i need support from before i grow up to be an adult. Without these people, my life would be joyless, unhappy and lonely. But of course, if i could, i would also protect my neighbours, and people living in my estate too. These people also deserve to be protected because they are my surroundings.

Comment on Ming Xuan's point of view:

I strongly agree with Ming Xuan. Everyone has a family, and our families are the ones that affect our lives the most. Our family members are the ones that are with us the whole of our lives and even though they will leave us in the future, we should cherish every second with them when they are alive. Our families are the ones that are supporting us when we are not independent yet. When we become independent when the are alive, it is our priority to protect them and support them like how they support us when we were young. So all of us should become independent as quick as possible so we can repay our family members by taking care and protecting them.

What will I defend

I am Malcolm Wu, Index number 21.

Although our top priority is to protect our family and friends, I believe that we should not only protect them but protect the citizens of Singapore. Singapore is not only made up my family and friends. We cannot be too selfish to think only about ourselves but the welfare of everyone in Singapore. That is how we should lead our lives in the first place. Yes, of course, family and friends mean everything to you and defending them is what we all should and will do but if the citizens of Singapore all could protect one another, that is the best solution all of us would be looking for in times of crisis. Our country is too small to let us only care about our families and friends. We have a small, growing population and therefore we should all protect each other to ensure our growing population to turn into a big one.

Comment on Justin point of View:

I believe Justin made a lot of sense when he said that he had to protect himself, not out of selfishness but for the sake of his family and friends so that he can protect them, especially his younger siblings. Protecting people dear to you would definitely be the option everyone would take.

What do I hold most dear in life such that I would strive to protect and defend in times of threat or crisis?

I am Ng Ming Xuan(25), from Secondary 2 Aloysius.

I will agree with Farhan’s post on the issue that ‘friends bring joy to one’s life, supporting us when we are down’. Friends are the ones that we often hang out with, talk about our special interests, sharing fashionable items, gather for a outing to explore new things and to confide in with some issues that we might feel uncomfortable telling our parents. Friends are requisite to us as they too, does not make us feel rejected and are out there to reach out to us.

What will I hold most dear in life that I would strive to protect in times of threat and crisis? It will be my family. They made a strong impact on my life. They love and care for me in their own ways and always being there whenever I faced difficulties, not letting me feel despair. The experiences and moral values that they share with me, prevent me from going astray, makes me unique and be an upright person. The period of time that they brought me up is not effortless as well. Thus, I will protect my family well-being and treasure what I have with them.

What Will I Defend?

I am Sim Zheng-Yi from 2A, Index Number 32.
Of course if you were to ask me what i would defend, it would most likely be my family and the people who are close to me but as far as possible, i would most certainly want to protect my country as it is where i am living in right now and where i was born in too. Protecting family and friends would be the least i could defend as they are the people i love and my parents are the ones who brought me up and into this world.

~Reply to Marvin Ng's Post~
I totaly agree with Marvin as family is still the thing everyone would protect and like he said, without them, we would not be able to do what i am now lead such a life !

What will i defend....

Nahshon here, i do agree with Ming Xuan comment as it true that our family has the most affect on our life as they have always been there for us. Our family are the ones who support us when we are still young and not independent. They would go through think and thin for us. We should repay their kindness when we have grow up and become independent.

What will i defend........
I will definitely defend my family as it is the one most important part of my life. They were the ones who brought me into the world and have gone through hardships to nature me since birth. Family is important to me as no matter what happens to me, i can rely on them for support and they are always there for me to return to.

What will i defend?

This is Marvin Ng Yi Song 2A(26)

What i will defend at the point of a crisis or a threat is definitely my family. It is due to the fact that without them, i would not be able to be doing what i am now and leading such a life with many people around you sharing the warmth and care that every one has in their heart. Though at some times we quarrel and argue, but in the end, we are able to patch back up and continue the journey that beholds us in the front.

Response to Sean's work
I too agree that family is the most important as they are the teachers of our life as they fill our brains with the right values that a good child should have and as a respect, we should repay all for what they did for us.

What will i defend . . .

My name is Justin Lim and my index number is 19.
I will defend those who are dear to me. Such as my family, my friends and myself. First of all, my parents are the ones who gave me life and have given me care and concern , so it is only right that i protect them. I will also protect my two younger brothers as they are precious to me and it is my responsibility to protect them. I will also protect my friends as they have help to mean a lot to me and real friends are getting more and more rare. Lastly, i will protect myself.  Without the ability to protect oneself, it is harder to protect others . This is all i have to say. Thank you for viewing.

I agree that protecting ones family is of the outmost importance however, what about protecting yourself. I feel that if one is unable to protect oneself then he will face difficulty in protecting others.

What will i defend?

This is Tan Wen Da, index number 35.
I will defend my family, friends and country.
I will protect my family, as it is my parents who gave me life, and it was my family who taught me how to be a proper person, and who watch me grow.
I will protect my friends as they are the people who had braved through hardships with me in life, and who had consoled and encouraged me when things turned bad.
I will protect my country as this is the country which i can call home, and where i feel safest.

What will i defend?

This is Chua Yong Chun, index number 7
i will defend my family, my country and my friends.
I will protect my family because they are always there by my side in times of trouble.
I will protect my country because that is where i was born and where i am living and mostly importantly, it is my homeland.
I will protect my friends because they have helped me a lot in my life and i will help them in their life.

What Will I Defend?

I am Gerald Lau, 2A 17.
I will defend my friends and family Without them, life will be hard to go through. I will also defend all citizens of singapore, as we are one united nation. Even if we are stranger, we still belong to the same country, and fight for the same things.

What do you hold most dear in life that you would strive to protect and defend in times of crisis?

I am Jonathan Chua from 2A and my index number is 6. I will defend my parents as they have taken care of me and brought me up. I will defend my brother as he is the only sibling i have and i will do everything to protect him. Lastly, i will defend my country so that our people would not suffer again if Singapore had been attacked.

What will you defend?

This is Wong Wai Qun, register number 40 of 2A.

1. What do you hold most dear in life such that you would strive to protect and defend in times of threat or crisis?

Firstly, I will defend myself first if not I will not be able to defend others. Next, I will defend my family. They were the one who raised me and provide me with happiness and joy through my childhood. They will bring me to the doctor when I am ill. They will be there for me when problems and burdens are piling up and share it with me. Lastly, I will defend my friends. We work together, play with one another, and talk to each other. In times of crisis, my friends will be there to lend me a hand, comfort me and encouraged me. In a nutshell, I will strive to protect and defend what I cherish. I will not think so far as to defend the country because I do not have this kind of ability at this point in time.

2. For the above question, state three different aspects and include in your responses, why you think these specific aspects are important to you.

Reply to Matthew Kwok’s Blog Entry: I agree with Matthew that we should protect our family and friends. Who I will defend

My Parents, Siblings and finally it would be my Friends.

While friends can bring joy to one's life, supporting us when we are down.

I agree that family is important and worth protecting as we grew up with them till maturity meaning that the Family bonds between them and us are a link to our beginning and a guide to our future as they will guide you to the correct path and not go astray to the path of condemnation

A sense of belonging is derived from the strong bond of family. The roots are planted deeply as we have the strong bonds that connects all of us together

What do you hold most dear in life that you would strive to protect and defend in times of crisis?

I am Matthew Kwok.

I will protect my family and friends.

We can always trust our family members. When we have a trouble and we need some help, we will turn to our family members.

Friends make life fun and interesting and they also provide support and advice when we need it. Receiving support from a friend makes us feel like we have someone there for us.

Comment of Sean's post:

Family bonds are a link to our beginning and a guide to our future. Early influences are fundamental to our individual development.

We all want to "belong" and feel accepted. A sense of belonging is derived from the strong bond of family. Family is where our roots take hold and from there we grow.

What do you hold most dear in life such that you would strive to protect and defend in times of threat or crisis?

I am Quek Choong Meng of class 2A and my register number is 31.

I would like to discuss about Bryan's view.

I would, to a larger extent, agree with him because family and loved ones of a person means a lot to the person. Without them, the person will be very lonely, if he does not have friends.

However, to a smaller extent, I disagree with him because we cannot just throw our country's and community's safety. As the Singapore Pledge states 'to build a democratic society, based on justice and equality'. This shows that we have to treat everyone equally.

In times of crises, I would hold my country, my fellow Singaporeans and the Singapore government. I will also defend my family and loved ones if possible. This is due to the fact that Singapore has given us so much benefits such as a good education, opportunities to learn, safety and security and even her life. We have to repay our benefactors and have to defend our country in times of crises. We cannot depend on others, just as Singapore cannot depend on the British during World War II against Japan. Therefore, we must defend our country, our people and the government in times of crises.

What do you hold most dear in life that you would strive to protect and defend in times of crisis?

I am Bryan Ng of class 2a and my register number is 3.

I would hold my loved one close to me as they are the ones who had raised me up and cared for me. They are the closest people i know and they will be the ones who will always be with you no matter what troubles you faced. They will also be the people who protect you from any danger and harm which comes in your way. Thus, i would want to protect my family and loved ones in times of crisis.

What do you hold most dear in life that you would strive to protect and defend in times of crisis?

Hmm.. in times of crisis. I would protect my family and also my loved ones as they mean the most to me. If i lost my family and loved ones, who would provide for me, who would care for me, who would shelter me in times of crisis. But then again, I also need to protect for my own country as it is my homeland, the place where i live. If it was destroyed, i would have no where to stay and thus it is very important to protect.

Hm. This is a hard question. I'm a rather sentimental person, and I hold many things close to my heart. However, if I really had to choose, I would want to protect my family and loved ones. Friends will come and go, but family will stick with you forever, no matter what happens in your life. Your family tends to understand you the best as a result, and you are definitely closer to them than to any friend. Secondly, they do love and protect me in their own way. Without their guidance, we would definitely be a lesser person. Family members, especially the older, wiser ones, do impart many of their life experiences to you.

As a result, I would definitely want to protect my family most of all. Why? This is because they're my family, and blood is thicker than water.

Besides my family members and loved ones, I would also want to protect my friends and those I hold dear to my heart. Friends, even though they might not be as important as family, are an integral part of everyone. No man is an island, and I believe most of us are afraid of loneliness. Friends are there to support us no matter what we do, and I would want to protect that friendship to the very end.

E LEARNING

I am Sean Soh Zhe Xun from class 2A(33)

I would hold my relatives and parents very closely to me because they are the ones whom i have created bonds with and share feelings and care for. They are the ones who take care of me and look  over my growing up so they are the most important. They are the ones who protected me when i was younger but now if there is a threat or crisis i will protect them.

What do you hold most dear in life such that you would strive to protect and defend in times of threat or crisis?

I am Kee Kai Xun Of Class 2A and my register number is 13.

To me, the first thing that hold most dear in my life such that i would strive to protect and defend in times of threat or crisis is my family. These are the few aspects: Firstly, I love my family and i would not want anyone in my family to get hurt. Secondly, my family would show concern to me and they would use various ways to express their love for me, and this is the type of love that is priceless. Therefore, i can use my love to repay them. Thirdly, it is due to the fact that they are the closest to me and we would trust them no matter what. Family members like our members would also impart life skills to us to make us a better person. They are the one who will give you mental and physical support and they would be behind us no matter what happens. Country and friends would come later.

Reply to Matthew's Post:
I agree with Matthew about defending his family. However, i do not agree with one of the aspects: "who else if not they buy you this and help you survive." I think they are the one's who would give us support. They are the one's who love us and their love for us will never change. They would also teach us life skills on how to be a better person in future. No parent's would want their children to grow up to be a bad person. Therefore i do not think that they help us to survive.

What do I hold most dear in life such that I would strive to protect and defend in times of threat or crisis

I am Daryln Too Wei Jian of Class 2A and my index number is 37

One thing that I hold most dear in my life such that I would strive to protect and defend in terms of threats and crisis is my family. I would protect them as they are my flesh and blood and thus, are very dear to me. They also care for me and love me. These are 3 aspects that are important to me as those are the reasons why  I would protect them and defend them and as they care for me, I should show my love and concern for them by protecting them.

Response to Kai Xun:

Yes it is true. I agree with you completely that the thing that you hold dear in your life as they are the one who made you who you are today and they are the one showering you with lots of love, for without having a proper family, one might grow to be a bad person as there are no adults to guide you and no siblings to play with.

Advantages of CCTVs

Friday, July 3 0
CCTVs are advantageous as they can keep an eye on the people. When CCTVs are installed, most people would avoid doing crimes. Secondly, CCTVs can help solve crimes as they would record what had happened on the crime scene and thus could be used as evidence. I think that Singapore should install CCTVs as to ensure the citicens safety.

While some of the disadvantages are true, I do not agree with some. If the CCTV is only activated when there is a need to, it may be to late in some situations such as when loan sharks vandalize on someone's property by mistake as a result of wrong addresses. Other situations like kidnap or murder may also take place anytime, anywhere and we would not be able to predict when it would happen. Storage of the tapes can also be solved by checking through and clearing up unneeded tapes once a month or so.

Advantages and Disaadvantages of CCTV Cameras

The advantages:The CCTV Camera system allows the government to keep an eye on a place and have evidence for any crime. This kind of monitoring will make people be aware that they are being watched by the cameras all the time and they would not dare to commit crimes or break the law. The monitoring system allows people to feel safer to go out and not to worry about their house being broken in.

The dis-advantages:The CCTV Camera system may use up too much electricity thus having a need to raise tax on people. Some people would not be happy to pay for something extra which they do not want it in the first place and this would cause a big problem for the government to handle. The monitoring system will invade into people's privacy which are not liked by the people. The CCTV may not be 100% full proof as people will invent or think of new ways to hack into the cameras system for bad doings.

This is all i have to say. Thanks

Advantages and Disadvantages of CCT Cameras

Installing security cameras provides officials with evidence that would not be available otherwise. For example, if there is a case of theft, the cameras would be able to show the evidence of the criminal activity. Installing security cameras also acts as a crime deterrent. For example, people are less likely to commit a crime if they know that are being monitored by surveillance cameras and would definitely be caught if they continue their crime act. Despite the various advantages of installing security cameras, there are nevertheless few disadvantages of installing these equipment. For example, the set-up and maintenance of these cameras may proved to be too costly for the buyers to afford. Some people may also find that these cameras can affect their privacy. For example, these people might know that the cameras are watching their every move and these may cause them to feel uncomfortable.

I think that Singapore should step up on CCT surveillance in light of the economic downturn and the increase in the number of crimes as these cameras may help the police in singapore to find traces of evidence of the criminal activity and better increase the rate of nabbing the criminal. Although the cameras may be a little expensive, i still think that setting up these cameras is worth it.

I think that these cameras may be a hindrance in my privacy as they can monitor my every move and these make me feel uncomfortable and they may effect my every action.

Reply to Gavins post.

It may be true that cctvs can help record down whats going on inside their houses. But some elderly are really sensitive when it comes to privacy. They feel that their privacy should be kept unknown to others. Why let others know what you are doing? And the cost for the upkeep of the cctv will not be cheap, especially if it is on 24/7.

Comment on Sean's post

I disagree with Sean's disadvantages because if you are not going to do anything bad in CCTV area you do not have to be afraid that you are in a CCTV area. Most CCTV providers would provide a decent firewall to protect the CCTV systems from being hacked. Most of the videos will be destroyed after a month if they are not needed but how many people want to steal recorded tapes of people shopping or going about in their daily lives.

Blog Entry 2

This is my second blog post, and my written comment to Yong Chun's post about the advantages and disadvantages of CCTV Surveillance Cameras.

I have to agree with him on the advantages. The CCTV can be really useful in checking belongings, especially valuables that you want to keep safe. Instead of worrying about it being stolen, you could just install a CCTV, as stated, to ease your fears. Like I mentioned in my first post, CCTV cameras can help in recording evidence that can be used in criminal trials to indict or acquit a suspect. It can also decrease the chances of a wrong verdict, with the evidence being able to turn the case around for the defendant if he is truly innocent. CCTV does decrease the number of crimes, like robberies in the places they are installed in. With the invention, it is easy to record the act and track the perpetrator down.

However, I have to disagree with him on the disadvantages. It might be a cause of unemployment for security officers when they could use CCTVs to keep watch on the area, but manpower is also needed in a very different way. Less security guards might be needed, but the demand for CCTVs will increase, due to dependence on the produce. Thus, more engineers will be employed by engineering firms to satisfy these demands. The invention of the CCTV could also cause the demand for other jobs like repairmen to increase.

I agree with his implementation of the cameras. By installing the cameras at Singapore's red-light district and at crowded places like Orchard Road, it will deter criminals from acting in such places.

Blog Entry 1

CCTVs are good as they keep the police, people who want to safe keep belongings or people who want to survey a place up to date on whatever they are surveying. CCTVs can also help solve crimes when evidence is needed. CCTVs decrease the amount of crimes in an area where it is installed. CCTVs let road officials monitor traffic and relief traffic jams.

The disadvantages of CCTVs to me are that they destroy job opportunities because CCTVs replace the eyes of humans, therefore not as many people are need for surveillance of an area. although humans are still needed to watch the CCTVs, less people are required.

I feel that Singapore should have more CCTV cameras at places like Singapore's red light district, Geylang, and crowded places like Orchard Road. More CCTV cameras should be put up in HDB neighborhoods to reduce crimes.

Advantages of having a CCTV

Saturday, June 27 3
• Having a CCTV would allow owners to check on what is going on inside their apartments. They would be able to check on maids, children, elderly and tenants if the owners are not around and some valuables like trophies and jewlary are on display. The CCTV would also help the Police in case of theft or vandilisam in which the recorded footage can be used to identify the crooks and the footage can also be used as evidence and proof against the crooks. The CCTV may also help keep watch of neighbors’’ homes as well if the neighbor asks the CCTV owner to also set the CCTV to watch both homes.

Comment on Darlyn's Post

From Darlyn's Post:  One advantage is that the camera cannot be tampered with as the cameras make use of wireless technology to work, also, the absence of wires in the camera makes it easier for the camera to blend in and hide in its surroundings, making it unlikely for criminals to notice them.

The last advantage is that installing a CCT surveillance saves manpower as it can be used to monitor the streets instead placing policemen on patrols there and wasting manpower. This way, the police department does not have to worry about being short of policemen.

My comment:
I do not agree that the camera cannot be tampered because as technology advances and time goes on, criminals tend to get smarter and getting all of the latest hacking devices to enhance their success in their operation. Deploying of policemen may waste manpower but choosing the right place where crime rates are high would not be a waste. So having cameras surveying the place with policemen patrolling the area would be a great combination to lower the crime rate.

good and bad points if the CCTV

Wednesday, June 24 4

Positive Points:

-Provides security

-24 hour surveillance on important places

-Aid in the capture of criminals and fighting of crime

-Provide evidence in crimes

-Discourages theft

-CCTV today often supervises industrial processes that take place under conditions too dangerous for humans

-Many cities and motorway networks have extensive traffic-monitoring systems, using closed-circuit television to detect congestion and notice accidents

-Bosses can also check on their employees in case they have been resting instead of working

- Monitoring the situation at home : maid, children, sick family members

Negative Points:

-CCTV cameras are intruding into people's privacy, as they are not surveying private, but public space, which goes against the publics rights

-CCTV’s are outnumbering people in countries such as the UK

-The ever-increasing number of CCTV’s aiding in the prevention of crime may lead to over-reliance

-Hackers and guerilla artists have exposed the vulnerabilities of the video systems in an act dubbed "video sniffing”, they have crossed feeds, uploaded their own video feeds and used the video footage for artistic purposes.

-Spraying substances over the lens can make the image too blurry to be read

-For wireless networks, broadcasting a signal at the same frequency of the CCTV network is reported to be able to jam it

-Laser pointers can temporarily blind cameras, and higher powered lasers can damage them

Blog Entry 1: What are the advantages of CCT surveillance?

Tuesday, June 23 1

With the increase in technology over the past years, there have been many new inventions like the CCT surveillance cameras.  Are they a great help to our modern society or are they merely taking away every semblance of our privacy?

I believe that in this case, the pros outweigh the cons. With CCT surveillance, we are granted a greater sense of security. For example, if you are being stalked, you can use the cameras to find out who the stalker is, and give the tape over to the police for investigation. It would then be very, very important as evidence.

Also, it allows you to keep a greater watch on your home, even when you are not around. There have been cases of maids abusing children in recent years, and installing the cameras can certainly help to prevent or at least reduce the number of cases of the abuse of young children and the elderly by the maids. For example, there was a case where a maid was caught on tape abusing a two and a half year old child. Would this be possible without CCT surveillance?

It will also save on manpower. Instead of assigning a person to keep watch on a specific area, when he could be more productive elsewhere, I believe that using the CCT surveillance is a much better alternative. With such technology, a person can keep watch on various areas, rather than keeping watch on an area and potentially ruining the operation.

Of course, there have been many concerns and criticism like the lack of privacy it would cause, but in this case, is the need for privacy greater than our desire for security and safety? I don’t believe so.

Comment on KaiXun's Post

Installing the CCTV cameras would certainly tighten the security in the area and could also help in the capturing of the robbers. Using the CCTV to monitor children is also very important in the child's safety and not like what most people say on how it invades the child's privacy. Most importantly like you stated, it is to provide us a safer environment to live in.

Comments on Farhan's post .

Monday, June 22 0
Farhan , I have read your post and do not agree that the using of CCTV invades privacy . If you have done nothing wrong whether in the public or in private , you would not be afraid that someone is watching you through the CCTV. The CCTV is meant to capture the images of people doing crimes . If you are doing something more private and you do not want others to see but it is not a crime like , kissing , hugging you would not have visited places where you think there might be CCTVs installed . You would probably have done those in places where there is unlikely to have CCTVs watching you like a park or at the beach .
I also do not agree that people with social disorder is caused by the CCTV . People with such problems would have probably avoided places likely to have CCTVs watching their every move example : a shopping mall or crowded places .
I totally agree that the CCTV provides security and it aids the police in crime investigations . The CCTVs installed at the crime scene might have filmed down the looks of the suspect . I this way , the police would have a much easier job in finding who the suspect is among the growing population of humans and leading to the apprehension of the suspect . It can also act as a soild evidence to show the court that the suspect had been to the crime scene or committing the crime .

I do agree that there is a slight bit of invasion of privacy is wrong, but it is for our safety as well that we are doing this thing. Many people would put safety before thinking of  their privacy being invaded unless he or she is doing something wrong behind the back thus thinking of privacy invading is bad as it comes with a good cost.

Blog Entry 2: Comment On Gerald's Posting

Even though I agree with Gerald that the fact that the invasion of privacy is a major disadvantage due to the installation of the CCTV, I believe that this is more of a one-sided statement. From an ordinary people’s perspective, we may think that the installation of the CCTV is an invasion of privacy to our lives. However, from a police perspective, we may think that CCTV is an excellent detection toll. Nevertheless, it only helps some preplanned crimes and even then there are ways to thwart its effectiveness (i.e. Hats/Hoods). Therefore, neither the police nor the ordinary people are at fault as when there is gain, there will also be pain.

That being said, most CCTV cameras have very low resolution. This can hamper spotting criminals. Also, there are bound to be some blind spots which CCTV's cannot see. With so many CCTV's, there are many screen which have to be monitored. Many guards have to be employed to keep track of what is happening in each screen at any given time. Also, humans can make errors, and see wrongly.

Advantages of CCTV

If CCTV are placed at places with high crime rates, it will definitely be helpful as criminals may think twice before taking action as their actions will be recorded down . With that the police are able to track down the criminal much more easier. It will also be used at crowded locations where recording down peoples actions from a higher view would be easier to identify each person rather than having policemen to stand in the crowd which would be difficult.

And with the newest CCTV cameras which are able to locate the direction when a gun is fired would definitely help with catching criminals commiting serious crimes.

-Monitor maids and children

Disagree

-Invasion of Privacy

-Social phobia

Reasons why I agree with Zi Li
--------------------------------------

- I personally agree with Zi Li as you can read from his post, it is true that the CCTV are now used in modern times to nab criminals that are on the loose or currently doing the crime. The CCTV are now used to catch the criminal in actions, to catch their face down on tape to assist the police in increasing their efficiency and to nab the criminal faster.

-I also agree that it deters in terrorism activities as it is placed in as what Zi Li has said in his post that CCTV are placed in those financially rich districts as that is where most of the terrorist strikes.

-The camera also has the ability to see what was the firearm they were using which could also led to the eventual arrest of those criminals.

-And finally for those parents who are busy in their job to take care of their children will seek help by hiring a maid to assist them with the house chores such as cooking, etc. But some of these parents are afraid to leave their children and valuables unguarded which is why they decided to install a CCTV to prevent cases such as the maid taking the valuables and running away.

Reasons why I disagree with Zi Li
-----------------------------------------

-Invasion of privacy! Most people feels that having the camera around them watching their every moves is that they feel that the government distrust them and in turn would cost conflict between the publics and the government which could leads to dire consequences such as riots, etc. They might also find this interfering with their daily life such as a couple kissing which is the taped down.

-Social Phobia. This is a disorder which some people suffer from. This disorder instill anxiety and extreme fear into the "victim" which some of the symptoms are them conscious of the camera watching them which may lead to the increase of the potential risk as they may go berserk and just launched themselves at the public and may inflict grievous harm on the person.

Conclusion

Lastly, I feel that there are advantages and disadvantages to the CCTV and agree nd yet at the same time disagree with Zi Li!

What are the advantages of having CCTV surveillance camera

Wednesday, June 17 2
It allows the security guard to be able to see all the happenings that is going on inside the shopping centre without him moving about the shopping mall which actually consists of saving time. As the video said, the CCTV camera is somehow acting as an eye to look at what is going on in the shopping mall of crimes being taken place. By seeing this, it would be easier to stop the crime and apprehend the criminal red-handedly so as to prevent him from denying all allegations. By having "eyes" around the shopping mall also reduces the number of security guards needed to patrol around the mall so as to prevent crowds. With the help of these "eyes" it  also allows the viewer to have a bird's eye view of the mall so as to be able to see the criminal clearly which allows no loopholes in the criminals look even if they wear a cap as they can see the shirt clearly and their size.

The Advantages of CCTV Surveillance

The CCTV Surveillance cameras would be an extremely useful tool in keeping the streets and other places safe from crime. The cameras itself would already have put off most of the robbers from even starting a crime as they know that their faces would be easily captured by the surveillance cameras. It could also capture the images of the robbers or thieves and would help police in arresting the culprit.

Advantages Of CCTV Surveillance

There are several advantages of installing a CCTV. The CCTV will be used to help identify the people who are stealing or shoplifting. This is because the CCTV is able monitor and help the police in investigating and capturing the culprit. The CCTV also can be installed at home to monitor the elderly, children or if they have a maid. The CCTV and be installed at other places so as to be able to prevent terrorism from happening.  Lastly, the CCTV is able to be installed at almost anywhere as it is small and light.

Comment on Kai Xun's post

Yes, i agree with Kai Xun that even though the installing of the CCTV creates a safe environment, it also invades other people's privacy as they can see what other people are doing. Installing CCTV at home to monitor the children is the same as not having trust in the children and also invading their privacy.

Blog Entry 1:Advantages Of Using CCTV Surveillance

Sunday, June 14 4

Installing a CCTV can have lots of benefits. The main reason why we install CCTV is due to several safety reasons. When we install CCTV, we will be able to avoid dealing with the thieves. The CCTV may also be used for traffic control to check the traffic condition on the roads. CCTV is most of the time use for identification after a theft or shoplifting. CCTV can also be used to monitor the actions of the children who are at home. Some CCTV is installed at the cash registers. This is a good way to keep track on transactions and those using the cash registers. Sometimes, it may be used to fight terrorism. Most importantly, it provides us a safer environment to live in. Lastly, it is about its versatility, it can be installed everywhere, making it a very useful tool.

What are the advantages of CCT surveillance ?

There are many advantages of using the CCT surveillance . One of the main uses of the CCT surveillance is to aid police in apprehending suspects of a crime . It is working 24 hours a day and 7 days a week .It can thus capture images of suspects and the places where they have gone to at any time . This can then provide police information on suspects and leading the police to the capturing of the suspects . Thanks to CCT surveillance , the police had successfully track down the suspects in the subway bombing in London recently.
The CCT surveillance can also help deter terrorism and are placed at financial buildings which was said to be the prime target of terrorist . It can also deter crimes especially robberies . There are some CCTVs that come with a smart technology that allows it to hear gunshots and where they are coming from . Plus it is able to identify the guns that was fired . Hence the rate of crimes had dropped due to the installation of CTT surveillance all over the city in New York .
The fear of break-ins and loan shark related vandalism during this economic crisis had urged some vendors to get themselves some CCTVs .It could be installed in their shops or outside of their shops . If it is inside the shop , it could capture the face of the thief that broke into the shop or if it is outside , it could prevent the thief from breaking into the shop or stop loan sharks from vandalizing their shops if the loan sharks had got the wrong address , fearing that their faces might be captured and handed over to the police .
House owners could consider installing one CCTV along the corridor if they suspect that the loan sharks had gotten the wrong address and vandalize their house . The CCTV will capture the face of the loan sharks that vandalize their house and the house owners can then hand the faces to the police .
CCT surveillance also can be used to monitor maids or children . An Indonesian maid was captured by the CCTV ill treating an infant and was jailed . Engineer ,Lubino Degracia Magsombol, 49, plans to install it in his house , to prevent his two teenage sons from accessing pornographic websites while he is at work although the one he thought of was a fake CCT surveillance . Even a fake CCTV could stop someone from doing bad things.
In the market , there are all kinds of CCT surveillance suitable to be installed at different places . All you need to do is to get yourself an ideal one for the place you want to install in to be able to capture the perfect images .
It is part of human to behave themselves when they know they are being watched .

I do not agree that ‘Most people feel that it is an invasion of privacy as they are conscious that a camera is watching their every move’. Even if near private housing, I think the owners of the houses were being asked if they want a camera installed around their estate. If you did not plan to do anything wrong in public, I believed you need not be conscious that a camera is watching you. CCTV cameras are usually installed at crowded public places and I do not think that people with social disorder will go to such places.  I also believed that once a while the security guards will change the cameras so that the cameras could be in their best condition and records the best quality video.

THE ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES OF THE CCTV

Advantages Of Using CCTV
---------------------------------
-Provide more security

-Easy to configure & easy to maintain

-Assist the police in crime

-Increase the security level in the financial area where the upper level people live

Disadvantages Of Using CCTV
-------------------------------------
-Invasion of privacy

-The data of the CCTV must be kept privately

-CCTV programme has to be updated frequently so as to prevent hackers or virus to enter the system

-The quality of the video as the CCTV has to be the up to date system

Reasons for advantages
------------------------------
-The advantages of CCTV is to prevent crime from happening in those city such as New York which has high crime rates, and in most of these crimes, the criminals are let off scott free so this is where the CCTV comes in place as its duty is to film down the incident such as where and when it happen.

-Latest CCTV are also considered cheap and easy to use and can be concealed quite easily to prevent suspicion and best of all it is very easy to be maintained.

-It assist the police in crime investigation as it takes down the criminal face and clothing and every single little detail to assist the police in nabbing the criminal.

-Most of these cameras are situated at the financially rich district as the crime rate there is very high as a crime is happening very frequently nearing almost half an hour a crime is happening.

Reason for disadvantages
--------------------------------
 - Most people feel that it is an invasion of privacy as they are conscious that a camera is watching their every move. And worst of all are those who have Social Phobia as this one of the symptom for this disorder is the anxiety and fear which is caused by being watched by people.

-The data must be kept privately as if any of the details are leaked out to the internet, the  "victim" who is in this video may complain and in turn will result to a law suit. If any of this details are released or leaked out, the consequences would also be very dire as if this video land in the hands of terrorist, it will result to terrorist attacking as the video would have took videos of every single spots in the city which will be a map to the terrorist.

-The system has to be protected as to prevent hackers from hacking into the system as once they are inside, they can control it free willingly while their comrades in crime do the crime while the hacker moves the camera remotely to prevent them from being recorded
While the system has to be updated regularly to prevent virus from invading it as just one virus would cause the entire camera system to breakdown due to system failure.

-The quality of the video must also be state of the art to be able to record everything clearly and the most important detail is that the face must be recorded clearly to prevent misunderstanding when they go arresting the suspect or main suspect.

sean:darlyn's post

Although the criminals cannot see them they would be smart enough to think that there would be  at least a few cctv cameras in the area.
Secondly, it does not really ensure more security or safety, so what if the people see it are they quick enough to get to the place and are the robbers slow enough to drag and take their own sweet time?
Lastly, it does save some manpower but, it still requires someone to sit behind the big screen to monitor what is going on and what is captured by the cctv cameras.

Disadvantages of CCTV

A major disadvantage of CCTV is disregard of other's privacy. This should be avoided as much as possible and so the CCTV should only be activated when the need arises.
Major Disadvantages
- Requires large storage space to hold 24/7 tapes of many CCTV''s

- Invasion Of Privacy
- Cause People to be Uneasy

- Must have adequate protection from both internet and physical damage

Eg Firewalls + Safety Shield

There are many advantages of putting CCT surveillance, like what Commissioner Ray Kelly from NYPD said in an interview that if people saw a sign on the camera that is from the police department it will not only prevent people from committing robbery during the night when there is very little human traffic but also it helps to lower the rate of terrorist attack as it would be seen by the police and would be easily captured. These cameras are also effective when needed in an investigation in tracking down the suspect, it was used in the latest summer subway bombing. The cameras also can be used during riots to keep the rioters under control and also during an assassination of a political figure police could use these cameras to find out what gun was used and where was it shot from, with all these details the culprit would be easier to be captured.

Putting CCT surveillance is a double-edge sword, there are also many disadvantages walking down the street seeing all those cameras could really scare someone with so many eyes looking at them. If Singapore ever wanted to install these many cameras they would need to consider the budget of the cameras if it was on 24/7 and the installation, it would cost a bomb. Also Singapore has to consider the manpower which would operate these cameras with so many cameras it will not be an easy job. FInally there will also not be any privacy, without privacy a typical Singaporean would write in to complain about the cameras and the company will need to get ready for lots of letters.

Well with those cameras in Chicago, the crime rate dropped by 16% if Singapore wants to put all these cameras its not up to us to decide as they would need to consider all the disadvantages and see if it is worth the money to install the cameras.

Well if the cameras are installed for the sake of the people's safety, i do not think people would mind if their privacy was taken away from them. Many would rather be safe than have privacy.

The Advantages of CCT surveillance

One advantage is that the camera cannot be tampered with as the cameras make use of wireless technology to work, also, the absence of wires in the camera makes it easier for the camera to blend in and hide in its surroundings, making it unlikely for criminals to notice them.

Another advantage of installing a CCt surveillance is that it strengthens security and that it allows the police to be able to catch robbers and terrorists on the streets, in the bus, in the train and also in secluded and dark places.

The last advantage is that installing a CCT surveillance saves manpower as it can be used to monitor the streets instead placing policemen on patrols there and wasting manpower. This way, the police department does not have to worry about being short of policemen.

Advantages of CCT surveillance

Wednesday, June 10 1

Using the CCT surveillance, it could help to fight terrorism. If it is installed in public places, buses, or retail centers, it can help deter crimes, provide the police with leads, help citizens feel safer, and improve the economy of a crime-stricken area. House owners can also install one along the corridor to capture the loan sharks’ looks if they think the loan sharks have gotten the wrong address and splashes paint on the door. Digital recording is done 24/7. There are also different types of CCT surveillance that are suitable to install at certain places so that the it could capture the best image.

Blog Entry 2: Comments on Sean’s Blog Entry

I think that the reason the police are increasing the number of CCTV cameras is to ensure no one will do any unlawful activities in the country while the owners of their house install the cameras to prevent any burglary of their houses. It might seem to be invading the privacy of other people and they will feel uncomfortable. However, they do not have anything to be afraid of if you did not do any wrong things. Moreover, the police are just ensuring our safety and the house owners have valid reasons to install cameras and it is not someone who takes videos whenever they want, wherever they are without any valid reason. I do not agree that anyone from the Internet can just hack into the CCTV system and turn the angle of the CCTV and a crime can happen in the other direction, which the CCTV had been moved from. Thus, I think that the matter regarding the police and the house owners installing CCTV does not have any implications to our privacy.

disadvantages of CCTV

Tuesday, June 9 0

Major disadvantage is invasion of someones privacy unless there are valid reasons behind implementing a CCTV solution i.e. for example deterring theft etc

Major advantages

- Prevention & deterrent for theft/crime
- Reduces stock losses hence increasing profitability (depending on its objective)
- Establishment of an anti fraud/crime culture
- Evidence for prosecution
- Great risk management tool

Major Disadvantages
- Data protection violation (have to ensure tapes are kept in a secure place)
- People might be uncomfortable being watched so will affect motivation, attitudes
- May cause people behaving in "controlled" ways
- Anyone from the internet can just hack into the CCTV system and turn the angle of the CCTV and a crime can happen in the other direction which the CCTV had been moved from.

To prevent that, the guard must be licensed if the area is to be monitored by the public.
To prevent invading someone else's privacy, it must be made sure that if the CCTV is moveable, the camera must not be facing any private houses or houses of people or offices as they have a right to keep their privacy to themselves.

Blog Entry 1: What are the advantages of CCT surveillance?

Monday, June 8 0
One advantage is that the unit will not be subjected to any tampering of any type of wire because the cameras make use of wireless technology to accomplish the task at hand. The absence of wiring makes it easier to be hidden.

It is easier to amass evidence against irregularity because of the clarity of the images captured. Most of these wireless units have a high-resolution image that makes it very easy to identify features of the person. This makes the cameras ideal for the owner of the unit to easily monitor all activities within range of the cameras, and clearly note any suspicious behaviour, while getting a clear image of the person engaged in the activities.

It also does not take much effort to install the cameras. It is possible for the cameras to be placed exactly where they are needed to be, as oppose to having to compromise on the location just to give way to the positioning of the cables.

The last advantage is that it is not that expensive than most people would think. In fact, it is possible to purchase these types of cameras at a significantly less amount per unit than many of the wired counterparts on the market today. It is no wonder that more and more people are choosing to go wireless for their security camera needs as wireless units make for much easier installation.
