Advantages and Disaadvantages of CCTV Cameras
The dis-advantages:The CCTV Camera system may use up too much electricity thus having a need to raise tax on people. Some people would not be happy to pay for something extra which they do not want it in the first place and this would cause a big problem for the government to handle. The monitoring system will invade into people's privacy which are not liked by the people. The CCTV may not be 100% full proof as people will invent or think of new ways to hack into the cameras system for bad doings.
This is all i have to say. Thanks
Advantages and Disadvantages of CCT Cameras
Installing security cameras provides officials with evidence that would not be available otherwise. For example, if there is a case of theft, the cameras would be able to show the evidence of the criminal activity. Installing security cameras also acts as a crime deterrent. For example, people are less likely to commit a crime if they know that are being monitored by surveillance cameras and would definitely be caught if they continue their crime act. Despite the various advantages of installing security cameras, there are nevertheless few disadvantages of installing these equipment. For example, the set-up and maintenance of these cameras may proved to be too costly for the buyers to afford. Some people may also find that these cameras can affect their privacy. For example, these people might know that the cameras are watching their every move and these may cause them to feel uncomfortable.
I think that Singapore should step up on CCT surveillance in light of the economic downturn and the increase in the number of crimes as these cameras may help the police in singapore to find traces of evidence of the criminal activity and better increase the rate of nabbing the criminal. Although the cameras may be a little expensive, i still think that setting up these cameras is worth it.
I think that these cameras may be a hindrance in my privacy as they can monitor my every move and these make me feel uncomfortable and they may effect my every action.

good and bad points if the CCTV
Positive Points:
-Provides security
-24 hour surveillance on important places
-Aid in the capture of criminals and fighting of crime
-Provide evidence in crimes
-Discourages theft
-CCTV today often supervises industrial processes that take place under conditions too dangerous for humans
-Many cities and motorway networks have extensive traffic-monitoring systems, using closed-circuit television to detect congestion and notice accidents
-Bosses can also check on their employees in case they have been resting instead of working
- Monitoring the situation at home : maid, children, sick family members
Negative Points:
-CCTV cameras are intruding into people's privacy, as they are not surveying private, but public space, which goes against the publics rights
-CCTV’s are outnumbering people in countries such as the UK
-The ever-increasing number of CCTV’s aiding in the prevention of crime may lead to over-reliance
-Hackers and guerilla artists have exposed the vulnerabilities of the video systems in an act dubbed "video sniffing”, they have crossed feeds, uploaded their own video feeds and used the video footage for artistic purposes.
-Spraying substances over the lens can make the image too blurry to be read
-For wireless networks, broadcasting a signal at the same frequency of the CCTV network is reported to be able to jam it
-Laser pointers can temporarily blind cameras, and higher powered lasers can damage them

Blog Entry 1: What are the advantages of CCT surveillance?
With the increase in technology over the past years, there have been many new inventions like the CCT surveillance cameras. Are they a great help to our modern society or are they merely taking away every semblance of our privacy?
I believe that in this case, the pros outweigh the cons. With CCT surveillance, we are granted a greater sense of security. For example, if you are being stalked, you can use the cameras to find out who the stalker is, and give the tape over to the police for investigation. It would then be very, very important as evidence.
Also, it allows you to keep a greater watch on your home, even when you are not around. There have been cases of maids abusing children in recent years, and installing the cameras can certainly help to prevent or at least reduce the number of cases of the abuse of young children and the elderly by the maids. For example, there was a case where a maid was caught on tape abusing a two and a half year old child. Would this be possible without CCT surveillance?
It will also save on manpower. Instead of assigning a person to keep watch on a specific area, when he could be more productive elsewhere, I believe that using the CCT surveillance is a much better alternative. With such technology, a person can keep watch on various areas, rather than keeping watch on an area and potentially ruining the operation.
Of course, there have been many concerns and criticism like the lack of privacy it would cause, but in this case, is the need for privacy greater than our desire for security and safety? I don’t believe so.

Even though I agree with Gerald that the fact that the invasion of privacy is a major disadvantage due to the installation of the CCTV, I believe that this is more of a one-sided statement. From an ordinary people’s perspective, we may think that the installation of the CCTV is an invasion of privacy to our lives. However, from a police perspective, we may think that CCTV is an excellent detection toll. Nevertheless, it only helps some preplanned crimes and even then there are ways to thwart its effectiveness (i.e. Hats/Hoods). Therefore, neither the police nor the ordinary people are at fault as when there is gain, there will also be pain.

Blog Entry 1:Advantages Of Using CCTV Surveillance
Installing a CCTV can have lots of benefits. The main reason why we install CCTV is due to several safety reasons. When we install CCTV, we will be able to avoid dealing with the thieves. The CCTV may also be used for traffic control to check the traffic condition on the roads. CCTV is most of the time use for identification after a theft or shoplifting. CCTV can also be used to monitor the actions of the children who are at home. Some CCTV is installed at the cash registers. This is a good way to keep track on transactions and those using the cash registers. Sometimes, it may be used to fight terrorism. Most importantly, it provides us a safer environment to live in. Lastly, it is about its versatility, it can be installed everywhere, making it a very useful tool.

I do not agree that ‘Most people feel that it is an invasion of privacy as they are conscious that a camera is watching their every move’. Even if near private housing, I think the owners of the houses were being asked if they want a camera installed around their estate. If you did not plan to do anything wrong in public, I believed you need not be conscious that a camera is watching you. CCTV cameras are usually installed at crowded public places and I do not think that people with social disorder will go to such places. I also believed that once a while the security guards will change the cameras so that the cameras could be in their best condition and records the best quality video.

Disadvantages of CCTV
A major disadvantage of CCTV is disregard of other's privacy. This should be avoided as much as possible and so the CCTV should only be activated when the need arises.
Major Disadvantages
- Requires large storage space to hold 24/7 tapes of many CCTV''s
- Invasion Of Privacy
- Cause People to be Uneasy
- Must have adequate protection from both internet and physical damage
Eg Firewalls + Safety Shield

There are many advantages of putting CCT surveillance, like what Commissioner Ray Kelly from NYPD said in an interview that if people saw a sign on the camera that is from the police department it will not only prevent people from committing robbery during the night when there is very little human traffic but also it helps to lower the rate of terrorist attack as it would be seen by the police and would be easily captured. These cameras are also effective when needed in an investigation in tracking down the suspect, it was used in the latest summer subway bombing. The cameras also can be used during riots to keep the rioters under control and also during an assassination of a political figure police could use these cameras to find out what gun was used and where was it shot from, with all these details the culprit would be easier to be captured.
Putting CCT surveillance is a double-edge sword, there are also many disadvantages walking down the street seeing all those cameras could really scare someone with so many eyes looking at them. If Singapore ever wanted to install these many cameras they would need to consider the budget of the cameras if it was on 24/7 and the installation, it would cost a bomb. Also Singapore has to consider the manpower which would operate these cameras with so many cameras it will not be an easy job. FInally there will also not be any privacy, without privacy a typical Singaporean would write in to complain about the cameras and the company will need to get ready for lots of letters.
Well with those cameras in Chicago, the crime rate dropped by 16% if Singapore wants to put all these cameras its not up to us to decide as they would need to consider all the disadvantages and see if it is worth the money to install the cameras.
Well if the cameras are installed for the sake of the people's safety, i do not think people would mind if their privacy was taken away from them. Many would rather be safe than have privacy.
The Advantages of CCT surveillance

Advantages of CCT surveillance
Using the CCT surveillance, it could help to fight terrorism. If it is installed in public places, buses, or retail centers, it can help deter crimes, provide the police with leads, help citizens feel safer, and improve the economy of a crime-stricken area. House owners can also install one along the corridor to capture the loan sharks’ looks if they think the loan sharks have gotten the wrong address and splashes paint on the door. Digital recording is done 24/7. There are also different types of CCT surveillance that are suitable to install at certain places so that the it could capture the best image.

disadvantages of CCTV
Major disadvantage is invasion of someones privacy unless there are valid reasons behind implementing a CCTV solution i.e. for example deterring theft etc
Major advantages
- Prevention & deterrent for theft/crime
- Reduces stock losses hence increasing profitability (depending on its objective)
- Establishment of an anti fraud/crime culture
- Evidence for prosecution
- Great risk management tool
Major Disadvantages
- Data protection violation (have to ensure tapes are kept in a secure place)
- People might be uncomfortable being watched so will affect motivation, attitudes
- May cause people behaving in "controlled" ways
- Anyone from the internet can just hack into the CCTV system and turn the angle of the CCTV and a crime can happen in the other direction which the CCTV had been moved from.
To prevent that, the guard must be licensed if the area is to be monitored by the public.
To prevent invading someone else's privacy, it must be made sure that if the CCTV is moveable, the camera must not be facing any private houses or houses of people or offices as they have a right to keep their privacy to themselves.

Blog Entry 1: What are the advantages of CCT surveillance?
It is easier to amass evidence against irregularity because of the clarity of the images captured. Most of these wireless units have a high-resolution image that makes it very easy to identify features of the person. This makes the cameras ideal for the owner of the unit to easily monitor all activities within range of the cameras, and clearly note any suspicious behaviour, while getting a clear image of the person engaged in the activities.
It also does not take much effort to install the cameras. It is possible for the cameras to be placed exactly where they are needed to be, as oppose to having to compromise on the location just to give way to the positioning of the cables.
The last advantage is that it is not that expensive than most people would think. In fact, it is possible to purchase these types of cameras at a significantly less amount per unit than many of the wired counterparts on the market today. It is no wonder that more and more people are choosing to go wireless for their security camera needs as wireless units make for much easier installation.
Disadvantages of CCT surveillance
Everyone has the right to respect of private and family life. However, public authorities may interfere with this right where it is in the interests of national security, public safety, prevention of disorder or crime, or for the protection of the rights of others. Such surveillance must be fair, necessary and proportional.
Although crime in the CCTV area might be prevented, crimes may be displaced to other areas or into different types of crime.
Cameras are often mounted on tall poles, which makes face recognition difficult. Other factors such as lighting, or the presence of trees can also affect image quality.
Images can be disclosed to third parties for crime prevention and detection and there are also no nationally agreed protocols for sharing such information which means that you can be tracked by any law enforcement officer anytime.Monday, June 1
